I had been catching snakes in my younger days and to get me to stop,parents bought me a boa and I named the snake squeezer,got about 6ft and liked to eat hamsters,gerbils(teachers gerbils also) rats(knock em on the head with the screwdriver handle or they can hurt your snake.fed him a bunny during easter.

Squeezer waited for the food to come to him and the other boa that I bought would seek them out.

unfortunately the both died overnight in my apartment many years ago, feel the had pest control come in.
I was very attatched to them,to be sure there is a committment because of there long life span(squeezer=15-16 years.

I will get another when I am in a better$ sit rep.


handle your snake because if the only time the cage is opened is feeding....your hand is at risk.

also, lightning got constipated and I found putting her in the tub with warm water got her to let "go"

JessCurious gave you some great questions to think over. Myself I love the BP because to me it's a nice size and it moves slowly, it's not a racey snake. One of their biggest drawbacks generally is the fact that some can be picky eaters and some do little mini hunger strikes which can drive you crazy with worry until they start eating again. :russian_roulette: They come in many beautiful colors and patterns, but I still like the more natural and common markings.

Another thing I would add to the list is how much are you wanting to spend? Not just the cost of the snake, but the equipment and even the food to feed it. Perhaps even looking at your feelings at to what the snake's food preference might be. Many people have difficulty feeding an animal to a snake (like mice, rats, or rabbits), but are fine with insects and fish.

P.S. Another word of warning about reptiles...they are like Lay's potato chips...you can't have just one.

The question in the title was, Where they live ? I this case here, nerp, they live in her house, she camps outside.. :sarcastic_hand: :sarcastic_hand: Goes in house to feed them..

afrade i have not stayed in contact with them...............not only that, but most of the native ones (the ones that i had originaly caught) i released back to witch they came..........as for the time that has passed since then, some well over 3 years.

I used to have a big, cranky iguana.

I had him for about two years, then unfortunately a business I trusted to look after him while he had an injury went out of business, and a lot of people's pets got sold, including Chuckie.

He was a bit of an asshole, but that's the same with animals as with people. Some are nice, some are not. He was definitely a big 'alpha' iguana. But we had our good moments too.

I still really miss him, years later, and I'll probably get another iguana some day. They're funny, clever, and fascinating animals.

I have a small ball python and she love to be handled. When I put my hand in the cage she will come to it and wants to be wrapped around my arm. I also have a Leopard Gecko but he is a coward and hides all day. I do agree with the other posters though; they do all have different personalities and different needs. Like my ball. She has issues shedding at times and its a pain to deal with even with the correct humidity so be ready for anything i you do get a snake. But for me the time and frustrations are worth it in the end.

Being a snake-enthusiast (Ball Pythons being my specialty~), there are a few things I would like to point out.
First: When getting ANY snake, you'll need to do your homework. Ball Pythons can be tricky to maintain, but once you get it right, its hard to mess up. However, as has been stated, if you want a friendly snake, you do need to interact with them more frequently. I tend to do lights on at 9a, off at 9p. When I turn them off, I take the lid off the tank as well. He'll usually seek me out. So, by saying ALL ball pythons dislike being handled... then I guess mine is messed up.

They ALL need tubs or tanks (I prefer tanks so I can watch them.)--but 40 gallons, in most cases, is too large for a single adult ball python (nor do you want to house them together, as they can become cannibalistic). You'd have to have LOTS of vegetation to cover the snake... and I do mean lots.

I love reptiles. At home we have about 10 tortoises which as soon as the weather warms up get the run of the back garden. They're a great laugh to watch when your sitting on the lawn having a smoke in summer.

I used to have some water dragons but my ex pretty much stole them off me when we split up (bitch). They were great. Very friendly and loved being handled. I've now got a blood python though she's back at home being looked after by a friend of mine as I couldn't really get her to uni as wouldn't want to to risk the international travel. Looking forward to seeing her again when I get back in summer http://www.zetaforum.org/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

I do plan to get more reptiles when I move back to England permanently. I really want a nile monitor and a dwarf caiman. I'm also planning on applying for my Dangerous animals license as would love to get a gila monster.

Some people seem t ooverlook how much of an individual character and personality reptiles can have.

I was pretty into Herpetology for a while.

A lot of it depends on species. But most are extremely hardy by nature.
I can leave my corns alone for a week as long as they have been feed and have fresh water (I have a dripper that replaces water loss automatically). Longer than a week I can get a friend to get fresh water and remove any excrement. Then can go months without food but they wont be happy and it's not humane.

Mine are kept in a glass terrarium (Basically an aquarium) with a flat electric heater stuck to the bottom.

I'm leaving out a lot of details and how they should properly be kept because I can only assume that has all ready been answered.

Just remember if there is a hole in the cage they will find it and squeeze through. If there head can fit there body can fit.

I avoid heat lamps and rocks because they are notorious for causing burns.
